COLLEGE STATION - Texas A&M’s Reed Arena is getting a million dollar makeover to its entryways and concourse.

It’s home for the Aggie Volleyball team and basketball teams, and the student Reed Rowdies.

And this new look could get them a little rowdier.

News 3 went on a tour of the work happening now in time for basketball season.

The floors are bare and the walls a work in progress on the concourse at Reed Arena with a transformation from the current look.

New wall schemes, to TV’s, and art work celebrating Texas A&M are coming to the concourse and entryways.

“As you can see right now it’s so much more alive and you can see the maroon that’s painted when people go into the arena,” said Eric Hyman, who is the Athletics Director at Texas A&M.

Hyman says this is the first update of its kind since Reed opened in 1998.

“We really want to honor our volleyball program, our men’s basketball program and our women’s basketball program which is what this will do. We are going to be redoing all the floors and we are painting all around Reed Arena and we want to accentuate our past history,” he said.

As Eric Hyman puts it the renovations at Reed Arena will not only be a great recruiting tool for A&M but it will also create a wow factor for everyone who comes inside for events.

What some jokingly say looked like hospital corridors of plain white walls, won’t anymore.

“It’s going to be a huge transformation and the changes are going to be very, very dramatic and when they walk in they’ll instantaneously be able to see that and feel that,” Hyman said.

Word on the transformation hadn’t really gotten out on campus until we showed pictures to students, including Stephen Burbank.

“I didn’t know about the renovations at Reed Arena but I think it’ll be great. I think it’ll hopefully draw in more students to go to thegames because we kind of have trouble with that,” said Burbank.

“I think when they come into this facility they will enjoy it and they’ll have fun,” said Hyman.

New memories to make as Texas A&M hopes this latest project is a slam dunk.

The project is expected to be completed by mid-November.

Athletics Director Eric Hyman says they are now working on drawings for their next big projects with plans to eventually build new softball and outdoor track facilities.
